Opal Jean James

September 4, 1933 - June 21, 2020

Opal ‘Jean’ James was born September 4, 1933 in Canadian County, on the farm NW of El Reno, Oklahoma to James Melvin and Hazel M. (Sisk) Harman. Jean passed away Saturday, June 21, 2020 at her home in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 86. Jean graduated from Calumet High School and attended a short term at Oklahoma State University. She married John W. James on June 13, 1952 in Canadian County, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1988 at the age of 63. She moved to Lubbock Texas in June of 2015 to be near her daughter. Jean is a member of First Christian Church in Calumet and retired from the Oklahoma City Public School System. She enjoyed fishing, painting, story telling, eating out, shopping, and her family. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, James Melvin and Hazel M Harman, husband John James, son Joel M James, sister Joyce Shawver and her husband Carl, brother James ‘Jim’ Harman, great grandson Carson Vasquez, sister-in-law and husband Eva and Ralph Peterka, sister-in-law and husband Nellie and Newt Randall, brother-in-law Ora Hadley James and mother and father-in-law Jennie and Ora James. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jeanine and Roger Reynolds of Lubbock Texas; granddaughters and husbands, Jeanifer and Chris Sims, Janessa Walls, Samantha and Curtis Wallace, Katie and Bo Hargrove, Sabrina and George Mayfield; eleven great-grandchildren, Trey Stephens, Skyler Barnes, Piper, Madison, and Porter Wallace, Bailey and Hunter Mayfield, Reese and Jace Walls, Liam and Elliot Hargrove; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we request services be limited to her family and her church family. Graveside services are open. Please respect others and practice social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice. A funeral service to honor Jean’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2020 at First Christian Church in Calumet, Oklahoma with Rev. Tim Clausing officiating. Burial will follow in Canadian Valley Cemetery. Viewing will be held Friday, June 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home.
