Leota Hattie Hadley

March 16, 1923 - April 24, 2022

Leota Hattie Hadley (Pritner) passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 24, 2022. She was born to Horace and Vertrie Pritner on March 16, 1923 in Calumet, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of 10 children. She attended Calumet Schools and graduated High School in 1941. Leota married William “Bill” Smithwick in 1941 and from that union came 5 children: William “Bill” Smithwick, Audrey Crawford, Robert Smithwick, Richard Smithwick, and Elizabeth Jessup. They were married 17 years before his passing in 1958. Leota was remarried to Jack B. Hadley in 1962 and were together for 26 years before his passing in 1988. Leota took great pride in her job at the Humpty Dumpty grocery store. She started as a grill cook upon their opening in 1968 and worked her way up to Snack Bar Manager. She worked there for 30 plus years before her retirement. Leota loved to play Bingo at the VFW and slot machines. Leota adopted the nicknames Gigi and DeDoe to her grandchildren and she wore those titles with pride. She raised all her children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her family very much and she will be very missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, all nine of her siblings, her first husband; Bill Smithwick, sons; Billy Smithwick and Richard Smithwick, daughter; Audrey Crawford, grandsons; Greg Smithwick and Nathan Paul Crawford and second husband; Jack B. Hadley She is survived by son; Robert Smithwick and daughter Elizabeth (Larry) Jessup. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. There will be a come and go visitation at Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9am-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the First Christian Church in Calumet at 2:00 PM on Thursday with a burial to follow at the Calumet Cemetery.
