Charles Edward Buchholz, 92 of El Reno, Oklahoma passed away on October 11, 2021, in El Reno. He was born to the late Edward and Irene (Dickleman) Buchholz in Glen Flora, Wisconsin on May 24, 1929. He lived on a farm near Wolverton, Minnesota from 1936 until 1941, when his family moved to a farm west of Campbell, Minnesota. He operated the family farm from 1944 to 1967, except for the three and a half years that he served in the United States Army. He married Alice Manock on August 17, 1956. While farming, he also served as an instructor at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota from October of 1959 to May of 1967. He began working for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Milan, Michigan in June of 1967. After working seven years in Milan, he worked one year at the FCI in Oxford Wisconsin, four years at the United States Penitentiary in Marion Illinois, and four years at FCI, El Reno, before transferring to the South Central Regional Office in Dallas, Texas to serve as Regional Training Administrator. He retired from the Bureau of Prisons on June 30, 1987. After retiring, he worked at a private prison in Hinton, Oklahoma, before transferring to a private prison in Appleton, Minnesota to serve as deputy warden, and was later promoted to Warden. Upon his return to Oklahoma, he went to work full-time in the Physical Plant at Redlands Community College on December 1, 1995. He retired from his full-time position at Redlands on January 31, 2010. When he was not working, Charles enjoyed gardening, construction, bowling, playing cards, golf, and horseshoes. Charles was a devout Christian and dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an elder for many years and taught adult bible classes. Charles is survived by his wife Alice of the home, his five children Richard and wife Gina, Michael and wife Cheri, Linda Harrell, and husband C.L., and Lisa (Buchholz) Gladden, all of El Reno, and Gloria George and husband Bill of Yukon. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Holly Harrell, Megan (Harrell) Jones, Jason George, Heather George, Amber (George) Freeman, Jessica (Buchholz) Wilson, Ashlie Cornelius, and Ryan Cornelius; nine great-grandchildren: Madison Campbell, Brylee Dupris, Landree and Preston Freeman, Emmett, Lachlan, Soren and Jenavee Wilson, and Aubrey Cornelius. He is also survived by his sister Ivy (Buchholz) Anderson, and brother Dennis and wife Lynn. He was preceded by his sisters Vivian, Evelyn, Mabel, Viola, Doris, Bonita (Bonnie), and Idelle; brothers Vernon and Ervin; and son-in-law Joseph Gladden. A funeral service to honor the life of Charles will be held at 2:30p.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church burial will follow in the El Reno Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the funeral home Friday, October 15 from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Viewing will also be held prior to the service at 1:30p.m., Saturday, October 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Charles name can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Preschool.
