March 14, 1931 - November 30, 2019
Betty Jo (Lewis) Perkins was born on March 14, 1931 to Josephus Lewis and Hallie James in El Reno, Oklahoma. She peacefully departed this life on earth at her home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 30, 2019. Betty was raised by her mother, Hallie and step-father Thomas Barfield. She attended Booker T. Washington School. Betty was employed by Western Electric (later became AT&T) where she worked until her retirement. Betty was a faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she served on numerous auxiliaries. Though in recent years she was unable to attend church, she continued to tithe and receive communion from her pastor. Betty was a dedicated member of her church and serving her Lord. She loved to talk about the Bible - where she could quote book and scripture while debating her point of view. It was a challenge to get Betty to listen, for she always had something to say. Betty contributed monthly to many different organizations that impact others; Her favorite organizations were the Vietnam Vets and St. Jude’s. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, especially one on one time to give her family her undivided attention. She always wanted them to know they were loved, cared for, and special. Betty is preceded in death by her father, Josephus; mother, Hallie; step-father, Thomas; son, Royce Perkins; and sister, Estella Mae Jones. Betty leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Taresa Kinchion; daughter; Lucretia Stringer (Donnie); daughter, Maria Perkins; sons, Richard Perkins Jr., Marcus Perkins (Cindy); Alpha Buford; and wife, Charlene; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. A celebration of life for Betty Perkins will be on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. A wake will be held at Mt. Moriah on Friday, December 13 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial donations in honor of Betty may be made to the Vietnam Vets or St. Jude’s in lieu of flowers. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.
